Everyone is aware of pollution. It is on so many of our minds. Each trying in their own ways to do something for Mother Earth. One such pollution that is greatly over looked is that of With so many city lights blasting away at night it actually is harmful to wild life as the spaces are not totally dark. Not only does it do this but for astronomers it inhibits their looking and charting the night skies. Which in doing this something that is important in finding may not be.
One such display of expressing the need for the repair of light pollution is the Dark Sky Festival. This began in 2004 with an attendance of over 1500 people. Young and old attending this much needed festival. With the many displays and vendors showing what is to be seen with a darkened sky, the festival was held in semi darkness with environmentally intelligent lighting.
Along with this Dark Sky Festival showing our children what astronomy is and the tools to peer at the stars and planets. By using the environmentally intelligent lighting which the lighting is placed in a downward position instead of an upward focus, the children and adults are able to experience what the night skies have to offer. This is very important to young and old. Many until attending this festival do not have the slightest idea as to what astronomy actually entails. Until they see the beauty in the sky.
The festival is something that one and all should plan on attending if they in or around the Florida area. For those wondering about entertainment, there is! At 7PM Rare Earth will be performing. I saw them years ago so that is totally cool for those that will have the opportunity in hearing some good old school tunes.
There is also a kids zone with a speaker talking about Myths in the Night that same evening. Children of all ages will surely enjoy that!
