For years my father was an avid stamp and coin collector. I could see the coins but stamps? Not really. It just didn't speak to me. To this day I have only shrugged and not seen anything to it, other than the financial rewards. Until today. I read Armand Rousso Philately Article on (to me) the art of stamp collecting or Philately. The article actually gave me much food for thought. A morsel more than I have had before.
Some of his points were to me astounding. Pointing out the advantages in stamp collecting, not just the monetary but the emotional rewards as well. The adventure for children of all ages to see and explore the various places in the world. Giving them more geographical knowledge by simply looking at the stamps.
My personal favorite part was the stress relieving factor. I thought about it for a moment, re-reading this part. He is right. As I re-call my father sitting for hours looking, cataloging and maintaining his collection he was stress free for those few hours. A very valid point that Mr. Rousso made.
I really would suggest reading this article. Although short, it is filled with information on stamp collecting. Another reason is in my personal observation, his love of Philately shines through his writing. Making this article sincerely written. I bookmarked his site and hope he continues to educate on this subject in the same manner.
