Alzheimer's Foundation of America
National Memory Screening Day November 13, 2007
As we age it is somewhat normal to forget certain things and our
memory is affected. Comes with the aging process. But just when should you become concerned at an earlier age that there is something else that is more hidden going on?
If you are beginning to suffer brief, short term loss such as forgetting names, places or especially during a conversation you begin to forget what you are talking about it might be a good time to go for screening on your memory.
Now, you are able to go in free of charge to have your memory screened for the possibilities of Alzheimer's. You may not have this but it is a good idea to check for a future gage on your memory sometime down the line.
Here are a few of the symptoms that might create a warning sign for you or anyone else that you know to be screened:
Memory loss, especially of recent events, names, placement of objects, and other new information
Confusion about time and place
Struggling to complete familiar actions, such as brushing teeth or getting dressed
Trouble finding the appropriate words, completing sentences, and following directions and conversations
Poor judgment when making decisions
Changes in mood and personality, such as increased suspicion, rapid and persistent mood swings, withdrawal, and disinterest in usual activities
* Difficulty with complex mental assignments, such as balancing a checkbook or other tasks involving numbers
Since we have it in our family I located a screening site and am making an appointment for myself to go to. Since I have found that my memory is bothering me and I would rather know before hand if there is a need to worry. I have an Aunt on Alzheimer's medication right now so better safe than sorry I say.
It is important to to have these pre-screenings for those of us and others to utilize.
Remember there is a screening site near you for
Alzheimer's. More importantly it is free to use.
