Everyone that I know is trying to do their part in going green. Taking active steps in doing something no matter how big or how small in order to help the environment.
I decided that I would phase out some of the paper invoices that my businesses generate each week and monthly. Sounds easy doesn't it? I mean people are out there doing
Green shopping so you would think that by not receiving a paper invoice they would be thrilled that we are all doing our part. Oh, but this is not the case.
I began with my first company and actually that went very smoothly since most is paperless billing and paying nobody really noticed the difference at all. There were emails and a few calls that applauded this decision. Filled with a new gusto the next business began doing the paperless invoices. There was a little confusion and people were asking WHY? When they were told that all invoices would be sent electronically they came around-slowly. Still a few old schoolers that need that paper.
Business three customers acknowledged the change and went about business as usual. Barely anyone contacted me at all. Very happy about that.
Then we get to my eBay store customers. For those that are International I still send the monthly invoices as they have moved on from eBay and are using my web store. Those customers of that have been buying for personal use really did not complain but they grumbled. Some grumbled so loud that I thought there was an earthquake that hit our area. I give an electronic notice stating that if they wish to have an invoice to contact me and one will be supplied otherwise there will be no long, laborious invoice. On the product there is a label with any numbers relating to the item. OK, sounds good? No. People have complained and complained loudly. I asked a few what they did with the invoice after they received their product. The answer? Throwing is away. If you are throwing it away why do you care if there is an invoice or not??? Does this make sense? Maybe in some alternative world but not in ours.
So, I have devised a happy medium. The invoices that are requested are now half the size instead of a full page.
Sometimes trying to do something good just does not work out very well.
