When we first moved here there were two grocery stores in operation. Not the big super market chains that you normally see, but more of the old fashioned mom and pop type. Each is on separate sides of the town. That way they would serve both ends without creating to much of a major competition. There never was a competition with us at all. We learned which store to shop at.
Of course, Coffel's serves our end of town and is a mere five or so walking distance away so the decision was not all that hard to make. The other store King Williams was dirty and a little more than creepy when you walked in. Having a smell of something I could not describe. We stopped going in there for anything at all after seeing the dead fly in the meat juices that were over flowing in the butcher section. I had always purchased meat at Coffel's as it always is clean and fresh.
Since they are closing of course our store is seeing more and more customers that have to either go there or out of town to buy their groceries. Seeing people that I swear I did not ever see before that are, well, different acting than the regulars that we see nearly every day. Instead of checking out right away now there is a small wait at off times that nobody on our end is used to. A little funny really when you think about it. How spoiled have we become? We were used to always standing in line before we came here. Standing for long periods of time was normal. Then coming here to be in and out (unless you stand and talk which is normal) as you are the only customer or a minute or so because there is a person in front of you.
The prices of course are raising as you would think. Not because of the closing but the economy. I am sure though that the prices will reflect the up swing of business as well. Since they are the only store now in town prices will go up to reflect the up swing of business. I know that I would
Just another thing to get used to.
