Yesterday I received an email from one of the services that I use off and on when I list merchandise on eBay. Usually when they send an email I browse it over but rarely really read it. This time though something caught my attention. The new eBay policies that are coming into effect starting this September.
What really gets me is that they have now set a maximum on items that are sent media mail. Any media mail item, usually books, printed material or magazines ship this inexpensive way. The new maximum is now set at $4. No matter how heavy this item is you are only able to charge $4. If an item is over that well you eat it or as eBay stated you can compensate for this. Raise your item prices to include what the extra cost of the item will be. So you are to tack on that amount. Isn't that price inflation? To me it is totally dishonest.
You are to raise all your prices if this happens. OR you can add the shipping into the price, adding of course whatever shipping in, and make it a FREE shipping item. Now, as I see it is the customer really getting a deal? Hells teeth no. Sellers will over inflate items so as to make up for their costs. There is no such thing as free shipping ladies and gents. Sellers add the cost into the items price they want.
What you are going to see on media mailings is inflated prices.
Why is this happening? Apparently eBay did data research (yea right they did), and the buyers told them the cost of shipping was to much. The buyers decided that $4 was reasonable to pay. Gee, thanks for telling me how much I can charge. Very nice of you makes my job a lot easier.
Yes, folks the buyers have spoken. What of the sellers? Who cares is what I am seeing all over the place regarding this. And don't get me going about International shipping as it is over the top when you ship even by the cheapest way. I guess buyers just don't get it.
I admit that some sellers rape on shipping. My solution, don't purchase. AND if you do, don't complain. I am a buyer as well and if I want it I pay the price. Did anyone take into account that in the shipping a lot of sellers figure in shipping costs? You know those envelopes, tape, time, bubble wrap is not free.
Buyers can not get negative or neutral feedback. Holding sellers hostage
Buyers deciding on our shipping costs. Again holding sellers hostage.
What is next? Will the buyers decide that prices for items are to high and only want to pay $1 for something? I didn't know that eBay was like a flea market.
OK, some of you are thinking then just quit if you don't like what is going on. Good point. But in thinking this I bet you have a job that you are not crazy about and complain when things are changed that are unfair. Think about that.
I have had a storefront on eBay for a few years and have seen them do things that made my mouth drop. BUT this is to much.
It is a shame that some coalition could not be formed and fight this. Open up something and give ebay a run for their money. I would love to be involved in that.
Ebay is much like microsoft. Think about that one for a bit.
There are other changes that are equally as bad but that is for tomorrow.
