We went to the estate auction yesterday morning. Man, there was a lot of people there. Of course since it is a small town you see so many people there that you know. They just come to look at what is going on. Jamie and Sabriena went with me. I think that it was the first one for both of them. I know that I did not ever take Sabs with me to any in Cali. I just do not think it is an appropriate place for children under 16. Sorry. They get bored and are distracting to you and others around you.
Rude? I am talking rude people here. The funny thing is if you averaged out the age it would have been 70. Pushing, shoving and being asswads. Sure brought back memories. I had a thrift store in Cali years ago and did this nearly every week so this brought back some good and bad memories of the way people behave.
I was surprised that Norm was there. I had thought of him in the morning ( be careful what you are thinking about, it might manifest) and how we used to do the tag team at auctions. haha Ah, good times. He was there looking for some particular furniture. He ended up getting a nice piece that I have a matching one that was left in my attic when I moved in. He got it for a good price plus he bought a few other things that I made fun of especially one that was like gross looking. I sat laughing at him on that.
I made some excellent purchases. Once I started to bid It all came back. One thing that a good auctioneer can do is pick up the signs. The person doing the first half was great. Just a slight nod or using of an eye movement he knew whether or not I wanted an item. I liked that. The other auctioneer was elderly and he pissed me off a lot of times. Even his daughter and the handler yelled at him about bids. Oh well....
Now, the funniest part was about material. There were boxes upon bxes of material and craft items. I use this as fill in for my eBay store. Sells good and fills up my store. These old ladies went wild. Regular material. Cotton with prints mind you. Not bolts of material either. Just flats. Most I saw in a few were folded, 2-3 yards. Some less. These ladies bid these boxes up to $25 per box. Buying them 3-4 at a time. Not worth it.
One lady there is a crafter. She had a big garage sale last year and I bought so much stuff from her I still have yet to put it all in my store. For under $50. She is there buying and buying. I leaned over ot my daughter and told her See this material, it will all be at her garage sale and I'll buy it then. Which is true. Her husband makes her clean out her craft room and the house. haha
I finally got pissed when they started getting physical. One lady hit me with a picture frame on my hand and arm. The end of it really hurt. I called her a nasty name after at first asking her to move away a little. Norm asked later if I had done like I did in the past and gave her a nice elbow jab. haha Naw, didn't want to break her rib. haha
We left shortly after that. I was getting pissy about the people and my mouth was letting a few of them know it. haha I wonder if I was a Marine in a past life???
I got some great items. I started doing research on a few of them and one item is worth $450. Not bad for a box lot of $12.50
Mommas happy
