Party Blunders

OK, so I am chairperson for Nicky's school party. Ah, the prestige of it all. The party is Friday plenty of time to call the whopping 5 people on the list (the 6th has no phone number listed) or so I think.

I am talking to Nicky about the party, he is complaining about something as insignificant about not having his Valentine cards yet. I tell him do not worry you have time, its on Friday. He looks at me with utter amazement stating that the party is Thursday not Friday. WHAT? I cry out loud in despair and outrage as this means I have to stop working and start calling those helpful moms. He goes on telling me that the teacher told the class AND it was written on the new note, in red as a matter of fact. God, I hate third grade know it alls with smug attitudes.

I stand my ground and say again he must be confused about the date. Inside I am getting nervous as I have a sneaking feeling he is right. His last words to me, Read the note, you'll see. Hmm, smart ass kid

I stomp up stairs, rummage through a pile of paper that he has thrown on my desk area. Finally, there is the note.
Yep, there it is (and in red writing) the party has been changed to Thursday. After uttering a lot of four letter and some five letter words I know it is time to call those people. Of course, one mom calls first. She was as confused as I was about the change, the treats and that stupid game the teacher wants us to pull out our rear. She is like good luck with that. Thanks......

Running down this list of parents was a nightmare. One child answers the phone, here is the conversation:

Me: May I speak to _______?
Child: She is not really here
Me: Not really? Do you know when she will really be there?
Child: Later I guess. I will have her call you
Me: That would be great.
Child: Hangs up

Now how in the hell is this parent calling me back when the child hangs up before taking the number????? If your child does not know how to answer a phone properly, take messages, please tell them to let the phone go to the answering machine.

Another number went to some music. A very annoying song that was so loud I think the neighbors heard it. They did not answer that call as well.

I did contact the others on the list and we got a few things going. I was not the only one annoyed at the party change. One was not aware it changed either. But it was finished and I could get back to working.

The teacher calls at 8 PM to ask what I was going to bring. I gave her the listings of all items and those parents not reached. Let her deal with them. haha She is a great teacher and a good sense of humor as well.

With the party being Thursday I am pretty much screwed by a day. Thanks for that.

Will I be the Chairperson of a party committee again? No. And I didn't even have to think about the answer.
